Move your world onto your new server

Updated 24 October 2026 · 3 minute read · Most games on Exclsv · By Exclsv Support

Upload a single-player save or an export from another host. HQ checks it, takes a backup of your server first, puts the world where the game looks for it and starts the server with it.

Bring your world

  1. Zip the world folder from your game’s saves, or download the save from your old host’s file manager.
  2. In HQ, open your server and choose Backups, then Bring your world.
  3. Upload the .zip, .7z, .rar, .tar or .tar.gz and choose Check my world. Nothing changes yet: HQ shows you what it found first.
  4. Confirm. HQ takes a backup, puts the world in place and starts the server.

Big worlds

A world too big to upload in the browser can go over SFTP, into the folder HQ shows on the Bring your world page.

Project Zomboid

The save folder must be called servertest. Rename yours before you zip it.

If it doesn’t work

The server starts with a new world

The world probably went into the wrong folder, or has a different name from the one the server loads. Check the folder HQ names on the Bring your world page.

I want my old world back

HQ took a backup before it brought the new world in. Restore it from Automatic backups.
