My server crashes or keeps restarting

Updated 31 October 2026 · 2 minute read · Every server · By Exclsv Support

When a server crashes, HQ tells you whether it restarted by itself, and the Server Doctor says why in plain words.

First, look at Health

  1. In HQ, open your server. The Overview says if it crashed and whether it came back by itself.
  2. Open Health. The Server Doctor reads the logs and names the cause, with a button for what it can fix.
  3. Every fix takes a backup first, so you can undo it.

The usual causes

  • Memory: big maps, many mods or a long uptime can fill the plan’s memory. Performance shows memory over 24 hours and 7 days.
  • A mod or plugin: a new or updated one that doesn’t fit the game version. Undo that change on the Mods page, or turn the mod off.
  • A game update: if the server stopped starting after an update, the page offers Undo update.
  • A broken file: a settings file with a typo, or a damaged world. Go back to a automatic backup from before.

Keep long sessions healthy

Some games use more memory the longer they run. A nightly restart suits most servers: add one from More, then Schedules. Palworld, ARK and DayZ have a suggested restart there.

If it doesn’t work

It crashes as soon as players join

Check memory on the Performance page. If it reaches the plan’s limit when players join, try fewer mods or a smaller map, or a bigger size from Plan and billing. HQ never suggests a bigger plan when the plan had room to spare.

It keeps crashing in a loop

If it stops several times in a row, the Server Doctor shows the newest crash log, which says why. Undo the last change, or go back to a backup from before it started.
