Players can’t join: the usual reasons
Updated 31 October 2026 · 2 minute read · Every server · By Exclsv Support
Most join problems come down to five things. Check them in this order.
1. The address
Copy the address from your server’s Join page in HQ and paste it, rather than typing it. The Join page also has the steps for each device under Pick the device you play on.
2. The server is still starting
A server shows Starting until the game says it is ready. Big games and first starts take a few minutes. Wait for Online.
3. The game version
Players need the same game version as the server. Most games update by themselves; if a player hasn’t updated yet, or the server is holding a version (Settings, then Updates), they can’t join until both match.
4. The password
Passwords are case sensitive. Copy it from Settings rather than typing it.
5. Who can join
If the server has a whitelist, add the player under Players, then Who can join. Check Bans too, in case they were banned by mistake.
If it doesn’t work
It’s not in the server list
New servers can take a few minutes to appear in a game’s server list after each start. Join with the address from the Join page in the meantime.
Only console players can’t join
Many games need crossplay switched on in Game settings, and some don’t let consoles join dedicated servers at all. The Join page lists the devices your game supports.
