Reinstall a server: the three choices

Reinstall fixes broken game files, or starts again. There are three choices, and HQ takes a backup first on all of them.
The three choices
- Repair game files: downloads and checks the game again. Your world, settings and mods stay. Try this first.
- New world, keep my setup: starts a brand new world. Your settings, mods and player lists stay. Not offered for games without a separate world.
- Start fresh: deletes every file, world, settings and mods included, then installs the game as new.
Reinstall
- In HQ, open your server, then Settings, then Server settings.
- Under Reinstall, pick one of the three choices and choose Reinstall.
- A progress page shows each step. Start, Stop and other changes wait until it’s done.
Undo it
Before anything changes, HQ takes a backup of the whole server. If something goes wrong, the progress page offers Try again and Undo, which puts every file back. The backup taken before Start fresh is kept for 24 hours.
If it doesn’t work
My settings went back to the game’s defaults
Only Start fresh does that. Repair game files and New world, keep my setup never put the game’s shipped settings files back over yours.
A modpack update replaced my config files
Modpack updates put the pack’s own config files back, as the pack’s author intends. HQ warns you first and offers an export.
