Updated 31 October 2026 · 3 minute read · 7 Days to Die (PC) · By Exclsv Support
Everything you need to run your 7 Days to Die server in HQ, in one page.
Join
- In 7 Days to Die, choose Join a Game, then Connect to IP.
- Type the address and port from your server’s Join page.
- Enter the password if you set one.
PC (Steam) only for now.
Mods
7 Days to Die has no mod store, so upload mods on the Mods page as .zip, .7z or .rar, up to 20 GB. HQ checks each has a ModInfo.xml in the right place, and you can switch them on and off. Mods with .dll files need Easy Anti-Cheat turned off. Server-side XML mods need nothing on players’ PCs; others must be installed by every player.
Settings
Open Settings, then Game settings. Each setting has a plain label, one line of help and the game’s own default where HQ knows it. Most changes take effect at the next restart; HQ marks the ones that change straight away. The server reads serverconfig.exclsv.xml, which HQ manages. If you upload your own serverconfig.xml, Game settings offers to use its values.
Backups and going back
HQ takes an hourly backup (Automatic backups) and keeps each for up to 48 hours, plus an off-site backup every 6 hours with 7 daily copies. To go back, open Backups, then Automatic backups, pick a time and choose Go back. Your world as it is now is kept, so you can undo it.
If it doesn’t work
It ran out of memory on a blood moon
Horde nights on big maps use the most memory. A smaller map or a bigger size helps.
A mod doesn’t fit this version
Its changes weren’t applied. Update the mod, or switch it off on the Mods page.
The settings file has a mistake
The Server Doctor names the line. Fix it in Game settings, or go back to a copy from before.
