Factorio server guide: join, mods, settings and fixes
Updated 31 October 2026 · 3 minute read · Factorio · By Exclsv Support
Everything you need to run your Factorio server in HQ, in one page.
Join
- In Factorio, choose Multiplayer.
- Choose Connect to address and paste the address from your server’s Join page.
- Enter the password if you set one.
PC, Mac and Linux play together.
Mods
Add mods from the Factorio mod portal on the Mods page, with their dependencies, matched to your Factorio version. Players get the server’s mods offered when they join.
Settings
Open Settings, then Game settings. Each setting has a plain label, one line of help and the game’s own default where HQ knows it. Most changes take effect at the next restart; HQ marks the ones that change straight away. Any Factorio version can be picked under Loader and version. Public listing and mod downloads need your factorio.com username and token.
Backups and going back
HQ takes an hourly backup (Automatic backups) and keeps each for up to 48 hours, plus an off-site backup every 6 hours with 7 daily copies. To go back, open Backups, then Automatic backups, pick a time and choose Go back. Your world as it is now is kept, so you can undo it.
If it doesn’t work
A mod is missing or doesn’t match
Update the mod on the Mods page, or pick the Factorio version it needs.
The save is from a newer Factorio
Pick that version under Loader and version.
It runs out of memory
Megabases and Space Age want the 8 GB size.
Run this on Exclsv: Factorio server hosting, from £4.99 a month
