SCUM server guide: join, mods, settings and fixes

Updated 31 October 2026 · 3 minute read · SCUM (PC) · By Exclsv Support

Everything you need to run your SCUM server in HQ, in one page.

Join

  1. Open SCUM and go to the server list.
  2. Search for your server’s name, or connect with the address and join port your server’s Join page shows.
  3. Enter the password if you set one.

SCUM runs on one port and lets players in on another; HQ always shows the join port.

Mods

SCUM has no official mods. On the Mods page, switch Exclsv’s own SCUM mods on or off; HQ restarts the server to apply it. Players don’t install anything.

Settings

Open Settings, then Game settings. Each setting has a plain label, one line of help and the game’s own default where HQ knows it. Most changes take effect at the next restart; HQ marks the ones that change straight away.

Backups and going back

HQ takes an hourly backup (Automatic backups) and keeps each for up to 48 hours, plus an off-site backup every 6 hours with 7 daily copies. To go back, open Backups, then Automatic backups, pick a time and choose Go back. Your world as it is now is kept, so you can undo it.

If it doesn’t work

The first start takes a long time

SCUM builds its world database on the first start, which can take ten minutes. HQ waits before calling it stuck.

Admin commands from HQ don’t run

The console needs Exclsv’s console mod on. Turn it back on from the Mods page.

SCUM ran out of memory

SCUM keeps the whole island loaded. A bigger size helps.

Still stuck? Ask on the Discord or email us.

Run this on Exclsv: SCUM server hosting, from £19.99 a month
